A local release for Avinuo Kire’s latest book The Last Light of Glory Days: Stories from Nagaland, published by Delhi-based publishing house, Speaking Tiger, was held at The Common Room in Kohima. The Last Light of Glory Days is a collection of ten short stories, divided in two parts, the author shared at the release.
‘The Disturbance’ has three interconnected stories based on the events of the Indo-Naga conflict from the late 1940s-90s while ‘New Tales from an Old World’ carries seven standalone stories that weave together Naga folk legends with everyday life.
Kire added that a few of the stories were inspired by oral narrators and expressed her gratefulness for having been able to listen and learn from them. The book was released and introduced to local readers by Dr Ralimongla, Principal of the Kohima College Kohima. While congratulating and conveying good wishes to the author on behalf of the College, Dr Ralimongla stated that her accomplishments bring accolade to the college and makes the college a potential for excellence in education through Kire’s contribution towards educating young minds.
Dr Ralimongla further commended the author’s hard work, motivation and passion, and added that she has done a great service to the people by penning down our stories for the future generations.
Kire has previously authored an anthology of short stories, The Power to Forgive and Other Stories (Zubaan), a   collection of poetry, Where Wildflowers Grow (Barkweaver), and has documented and co-authored a collection of oral narratives titled Naga Heritage Centre: People Stories (PenThrill).
